Get Away on the Norwegian Getaway
If you have never cruised on a big ship, you are literally missing the boat! It’s amazing to experience what truly feels like a floating city.
We cruised over the week of Christmas with our two teenage boys and had a great trip. The accommodations, food, service, and ports of call were all top notch. We couldn’t find fault with anything about the cruise. Here is the break down of our cruise and all that the Getaway offers
Embarkation was a breeze! We opted to board the ship at 12:30pm, and it only took about 15 minutes from the minute we arrived until we were on board. Hint: if you get there early to board at 11am, there will definitely be a wait, but if you want VIBE access, you’d better be there first!
We went to the dining room for lunch and to wait for them to announce that our cabin was ready. Perfect timing. As soon as we finished our lovely lunch, we headed to our cabin to change into our suits. Everyone that was on the pool deck, left to go to their cabins and we took over their seats on the pool deck. We positioned ourselves perfectly to watch as we set sail from Miami.
One of my favorite things about cruising is the FOOD! The food on the Getaway absolutely exceeded my expectations. There are three main dining rooms, a complimentary noodle restaurant, a 24 hour pub, and 6 specially restaurants. So many choices! Take a look at the menus below to see just some of the choices you will have:
As with the restaurants, there is a huge selection of bars. Our favorite was the Mojito bar, Sugarcane, on deck 8. Truly great drinks and fantastic bartenders. If that’s not your style, there are literally a dozen or more other choices. We also enjoyed the Irish pub on deck 7. It’s a really cool bar with darts and pool! Each bar has a different vibe which is crazy considering they are all on the same ship!
People often ask what you do all day on a cruise ship. It really depends on you, but no matter what, you won’t have a problem filling your days at sea! The pool deck has great music, water slides, and a ropes course. When you want to get out of the sun, the spa, gym, casino are all great. Do keep in mind that these are just a few of the things you can do. There are always activities, games, and shows going on. Rather than not knowing what to do, it’s more like not knowing what to leave out as there are so many enticing things to do!

There's a Reason Why Whistler is #1
We first visited Whistler the summer of ‘07. At the time, we had no idea what we were in for. Summer is beautiful in British Columbia! The weather was perfect. We immediately fell in love with Whistler Village which is home to countless bars, restaurants, and shops. Even though it was summer, the village was full of energy. From hiking to four-wheeling through and biking down the mountains, Whistler has it all. The highlight was skiing on the glacier on July 4th! Heading up 3 separate lifts in 75 degree weather to find yourself atop a beautiful glacier was awesome. We all loved Whistler so much that it has become our winter ski destination of choice seven times since our summer there. The skiing is unmatched, but there is so much more. The food and fun is endless! We know Whistler inside and out and would love to help you enjoy the best vacation ever at this awesome mountain getaway!

The Very Best of Cabo!
A quick getaway for our anniversary turned into so much more than expected. The Resort at Pedregal is simply the amazing. It won the award for Mexico’s top resort and we now understand why. From the moment our personal driver met us at the airport to the point at which he walked us back through security on our way home, the trip was fabulous! The drive into the resort may be one of the most amazing features. You drive through a tunnel cut through the mountainside with a crystal chandelier hanging from above. The rooms are spectacular; each having it’s own infinity pool overlooking the enormous waves of the Pacific. During the day we would spend time at the adult infinity pool on the beach. The ocean’s waves were so big they would come all the way up to the pool sometimes crashing over. Pedregal’s signature restaurant, El Farallon, is a must do! The restaurant is built into a cliff above the ocean. The food is excellent and the view is unreal! The great thing about this resort is it’s proximity to downtown Cabo. If you want to get away and explore, you can walk or take a short cab ride. All together, it is the best of both worlds. The afternoon guacamole and Coronas, the “welcome” tequila left in your room, the spa, the pool, the service, everything is top notch! We’ve been back since that first trip and will definitely be back again.
Fun Streets - Rainey St, Austin
One of the things I love to do when arriving in a city is to scope out what will be the most fun to do or see. Rainey Street in Austin, TX certainly fits the bill! The bungalow lined street amongst high rise condos and hotels retains it’s quaintness while still evolving in a booming Austin. Rainey is different from Austin’s “6th Street” bar scene. It is certainly known but not nearly like 6th. Imagine 6th being Bourbon St and Rainey it’s younger and not so “crazy” sibling. Don’t worry, there is plenty of fun to be had, though. Whether it’s a bar made out of shipping containers, a beer garden, or my favorite “Unbarlievable”, a circus themed bar, there is something for everyone. The food truck scene is robust as well; so don’t feel like you have to leave the area if you just want a quick bite. I’ve been up and down Rainey a few times and absolutely love it!
